Written by Asaura, who served as the story draft writer for the anime series and is known for works such as Ben-To and the recently launched manga Double Helix Blossom, Recovery Days follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Lycoris Recoil: Ordinary Days. The illustrator Imigimuru, who worked on the character designs for the anime and is also the artist behind the manga This Art Club Has a Problem!, will once again provide the artwork for the light novel. The book will be published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label.
Continuing the Lycoris Recoil Story
While the official synopsis of Recovery Days does not reveal much about the plot, readers can expect to see more of the characters Chisato and Takina, as well as further exploration of the LycoReco cafe.
The Lycoris Recoil anime, consisting of 13 episodes, aired from July 2 to the end of the summer season in 2022. The series combines elements of girls-with-guns and buddy-action genres and is set in a Japan where a secret agency employs teenage female agents to prevent terrorist attacks. The show was streamed on Crunchyroll and Bilili.
Crunchyroll provides the following description of the plot:
“For these peaceful days――there’s a secret behind it all. A secret organization that prevents crimes: ‘DA – Direct Attack.’ And their group of all-girl agents: ‘Lycoris.’ This peaceful everyday life is all thanks to these young girls. The elite Chisato Nishikigi is the strongest Lycoris agent of all time. Alongside her is Takina Inoue, the talented but mysterious Lycoris. They work together at one of its branches – Café LycoReco. Here, the orders this café takes range from coffee and sweets to childcare, shopping, teaching Japanese to foreign students, etc. It’s mostly tasks unbefitting of Lycoris. The free-spirited and optimistic pacifist, Chisato. And the cool-headed and efficient Takina. The chaotic everyday lives of this mismatched duo begin!”
Popularity and Success of Lycoris Recoil
The previous light novel in the series was incredibly popular, with a second round of reprints ordered even before its official release. KADOKAWA announced on September 8, the day prior to the book’s launch, that over 100,000 copies had been produced from the reprints. The anime adaptation has also spawned a manga version and two manga anthologies.
In February 2023, a new Lycoris Recoil anime was announced, although details about whether it will be a new season, a movie, or something else have yet to be revealed.
