The One Piece Anime Series

The One Piece anime series, produced by Toei Animation, first aired in 1999. It is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll and iQIYI outside of Japan. In 2021, the series reached a milestone of over 1000 episodes.

In 2023, it received its first ending song since 2006.

The One Piece Manga

The anime is an adaptation of the manga created by Eiichirou Oda. The manga began its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 and has been compiled into 107 tankoubon volumes as of November 2023.

The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who as a child was inspired to become a pirate after hearing stories about the pirate “Red-Haired” Shanks. Luffy’s life takes a turn when he accidentally eats the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit, gaining the ability to stretch like rubber but losing the ability to swim. Determined to become the king of the pirates, Luffy embarks on a solo adventure in search of the legendary treasure known as the “One Piece.”

Expanding the One Piece Universe

In 1999, an OVA (original video animation) produced by Production I.G was released prior to the anime series. Last year, a remake titled The One Piece was announced, with WIT STUDIO handling the production. Additionally, a live-action adaptation of One Piece was released on Netflix in 2023 and has been renewed for a second season.
