Based on the light novel series written by Sunsunsun and illustrated by Momoko, ‘Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian’ revolves around the story of Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou, a half-Russian beauty with silver hair. She is known as the ‘solitary princess’ of Seiren Private Academy and excels in her studies. Alisa also holds the position of student council accountant and has the task of reprimanding her slacker classmate, Masachika Kuze.
Masachika constantly frustrates Alisa with his careless behavior, such as falling asleep in class and forgetting his textbooks. However, Alisa’s true feelings towards Masachika are not as negative as they may seem. In fact, she allows him to call her by her nickname, Alya, and even indulges in flirtatious conversations with him in Russian, a language her classmates do not understand. Little does she know that Masachika secretly eavesdrops on her private revelations, pretending to be clueless about their meaning.

The light novel series began in 2021 and currently consists of nine volumes, including a short story collection. A manga adaptation, published by Kodansha and illustrated by Saho Tenamachi, started serialization in 2022. ‘Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian’ originally started as a short story on the online platform Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2020.
Talented Team Behind the Anime Adaptation
The anime adaptation will be directed and written by Ryouta Itou, known for his work on ‘Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie’ and ‘My Senpai is Annoying.’ Yuuhei Murota will serve as the character designer and chief animation director, bringing his experience from ‘Love Live! Sunshine!!’ to the project. The art direction will be handled by Risa Wakabayashi, known for her work on ‘Kaguya-sama: Love Is War,’ while Yuka Itou will take charge of the color design. Seiichi Sugiura will be responsible for the compositing direction, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi will compose the music. The animation production will be done by Doga Kobo.
